‪#‎OTD‬ in 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed legislation creating the WAVES (Women Appointed for Voluntary Emergency Service). The WAVES were established in ‪#‎WWII‬ as part of the U.S. Navy, to release male naval personnel for sea duty. The women served in communications, air traffic control, naval air navigation, and clerical positions in the United States, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Caribbean.
